Yesterday, January 26, 2013, El Paso County Search and Rescue tweeted: Epcsar completed a successful cardiac save at the top of the Manitou Incline. We were able to defibrulate with good response.
I don’t have many details but got this second hand info from someone who was at the top of the Incline around 10:30 yesterday. A man and his wife were at the top and the man had a heart attack. EMS came up Longs Ranch Road and used the paddles on him.
Here’s hoping he has a full recovery. A big thanks to El Paso County Search and Rescue for what they do.
My name is Denise and my boyfriend Bob is the individual that you are referring to. Let me first say that Bob is doing very well, all things considered. He suffered from a massive heart attack. First, we thank God for the fact that Bob is still with us! We also thank each and every person on the Incline that offered their help: Robyn, the first responder, that held on to Bob the entire time and helped out with keeping things organized until the medics and rescue arrived; the individuals that offered their jackets and other items to help keep him warm; the ladies that held onto me as this unfolded; the people who gave him compressions;and finally the medics and rescue team that got him to the hospital. It is impossible to find words that are sufficient enough to express our gratitude. We will never forget any of you or the kindness you showed to us! We know there is a long road ahead but at least Saturday wasn’t the end. Bob has three kids and two grandchildren on the way and thanks to all of you he will continue to be there for them (and me). Again, our deepest thanks!
Denise, thanks for giving us an update on Bob. I’m happy to hear he’s doing well for what he’s gone through. I pray that his recovery continues to go well. There are a lot of amazing people looking at for us from El Paso Search and Rescue, medics to fellow hikers.
I was there praying for Bob and would like to know how he is doing now.
Thank you.
A “BIG” Thank you to all involved in helping rescue my brother!!! Being from Ohio, Bob loves to hike the mountains of Colorado. He still has a long road ahead, but thanks to your healing hands, warm support and prayers, we will have him for much longer! Also, thank you for helping support Denise through this horrible situation! You have made such a huge impact, we could never find the words to thank you enough!-Chris
Lost and found update from EPCSAR- Many hikers volunteered clothing to help keep the patient warm. We have several jackets, sweat shirts and other items. Please reply if you would like any of it back. Thank you all for your continued support.
What a great story–it’s very touching how everyone came together to help. I’m a reporter from the Air Force Academy and we’d like to write a story on it. A major and captain from here were on the incline that day and told us the story. Denise, is there any way you could send me your e-mail address? Mine is amber.baillie.ctr@us.af.mil.
